Marcel Dettmann (born 26 October 1977 in Pößneck, Thuringia, East Germany) is a pioneering figure in techno, known for his uncompromising sound and deep ties to Berlin’s underground. He began DJing in the early '90s and became a resident at OstGut in 1999, continuing at Berghain from its opening in 2004 — a venue now synonymous with his name.

🛠️ Dettmann’s decade at Hard Wax record store shaped his curatorial instincts and connected him to the global vinyl community. He founded Marcel Dettmann Records (MDR) in 2006, releasing stripped-back, industrial techno that reflects his aesthetic: raw, minimal, and emotionally restrained.

🎶 His influences span EBM, post-punk, and early Detroit techno — artists like Jeff Mills and Underground Resistance were formative. Dettmann’s work extends beyond club music into sound design for art installations and film, and he’s collaborated with visual artists and institutions like the Centre Pompidou.

🌍 Touring extensively, he’s played major festivals including Movement Detroit, Dekmantel, and Garbicz, while maintaining a strong presence at Berghain. His DJ sets are known for their precision, tension, and refusal to cater to trends.
