Ricardo Villalobos (born 6 August 1970) is a Chilean-born German electronic music producer and DJ, known as one of the pivotal figures in minimal techno and microhouse. 🎚️
He relocated to Germany with his family in 1973 to escape the Pinochet regime. Early on, Villalobos played congas and bongos, and nurtured a deep love for Depeche Mode, following their European tours with devotion.
While studying at university, he began DJing for fun, eventually launching the label Placid Flavour in 1993. Though short-lived, the effort paved the way for his debut release on the German Playhouse label in 1994. By 1998, he was performing professionally.
In 2006, he played to an estimated 300,000 people at Berlin's Loveparade alongside Richie Hawtin and Luciano. He topped Resident Advisor’s Top 100 DJs list at the close of 2007, 2008, and 2010.
