Unknown Concept is the alias of Paddy Carroll, a Melbourne-based producer and DJ whose sonic identity fuses progressive psychedelia, minimal techno, and dark atmospheric grooves. Originally a drummer in metal bands on the Mornington Peninsula, Paddy transitioned to electronic music production in 2015, drawn to the deeper, moodier edges of techno that echoed his rhythmic roots.

His early explorations were shaped by a DIY ethos and a desire to push boundaries — crafting tracks that range from hypnotic, groove-driven progressions to raw, four-on-the-floor power. This versatility has earned him support slots alongside some of his musical heroes and bookings across four continents.

As a resident of SixthSense Australia, Paddy has become a fixture in the underground circuit, performing at iconic venues like Berlin’s Sisyphos and Birgit, Montreal’s Groove & Bass Festival, and Australia’s Esoteric and Elements Festivals. His sets are known for their immersive flow, emotional depth, and technical precision.

In the studio, Unknown Concept has released on respected labels including Techgnosis Records, Digital Diamonds, Alula Tunes, Recovery Collective, Alpaka Muzik, and Euphorie Bezirk. His remix of Butterfly Effects (IbogaTech) and collaborative works with artists like Tom Baker and Luis M showcase a commitment to sonic storytelling and genre fluidity.

Beyond performance and production, Paddy curates VA compilations such as *BushpaKa Vol. 3 & 4*, highlighting emerging talent and shaping the bush techno aesthetic. His work reflects a deep connection to nature, introspection, and the transformative power of sound.
